This series, inspired by the Greek symposium, literally means to drink together. It was believed that the perfect conversation was equal parts wine and word. Wine and Word will run each Wednesday night in July.
The first speaker, Dr. Elizabeth Schrader Polczer, is the preeminent scholar on translating errors in John’s Gospel that changed the way the world saw Mary Magdalene. She recently earned her PhD in Early Christianity and New Testament from Duke University, and she is an incoming Assistant Professor of New Testament at Villanova University. On July 5, she will share her research on the earliest manuscripts of the Gospel of John, illuminating possible efforts to diminish Mary Magdalene’s significance as a disciple of Jesus.
