The secret to a wine’s color lies not in the pulp, but in the skins. When making white wine, the grape skins are removed before fermentation, resulting in a clear juice that ultimately yields a transparent white wine

Red wine is prepared by fermenting grapes with the skin and seeds. Thus is it red in color because of the pigments coming from the skin which are anthocyanins

For the same reason red wine is prepared using grapes with darker skin color

Whereas white wine can be prepared from any color grapes

Which one is healthier?
Because of the fermentation with the grape skin, red wine is particularly rich in plant compounds present in those skins, such as tannins and resveratrol

Hence red wine has a slight edge over white because it has higher amounts of some vitamins and minerals.
